Making a Crocheted Doll

Materials:

8 ply knitting yarn - Main Colour (MC)(brown for skin) Contrasting Colours (C1 C2)

No 3.50 crochet hook. Note Adjust the size of hook if using different ply yarn.

Abbreviations:

ch – chain, d c - double crochet, (if used to American terms, sc – single crochet) Sl st – slip stitch, inc – increase, foll – following, rep – repeat, dec – decrease, w/o – without.

Head

Make three ch, join into a ring.

1^st round : 6 d c into ring.

2^nd round; 2 d c into each d c (12 d c)

3^rd round As 2^nd round (24 d c)

4^th round Work 1 round w/o increasing

5^th round: Inc in every 4^th stitch (30 d c)

6^th round: Inc in every 5^th stitch (36 d c)

7^th round: Inc in every 6^th stitch (42 d c)

Work four rounds without inc.

Turn. Wind wool around first finger of left hand 3 times, insert hook through next st and through 3 loops on finger, draw through stitch, wool round hook and draw through all loops on hook. Release loops from finger and repeat in next 22 stitches (this forms loops for hair)

Turn, D c to end of round (end of round should be where loops began.)

Miss every 6^th d c in next and following rounds until 24 sts remain.

Stuff head firmly and then miss every 4^th st until 10 sts remain. Draw together with needle and fasten off. Add features (embroider/felt etc).

Legs

(make 2)

Begin at foot.

Make three ch into a ring

1^st round: 6 d c into ring

2^nd round: 2 d c into each d c (12 st)

3^rd round: d c in first st, inc. in second st repeat to end (18 d c )

Work 4 more rounds w/o increasing

Change to C1 for 8^th round and continue straight of 11 more rounds.

Finish off

Body

Join C1 to leg

1^st round: 1 d c into next 15 d c , working along top of

1^st leg, miss 3 d c, 1 d c into next 15 d c of 2^nd leg.

2^nd round: 1 d c into each d c (30 d c)

Continue in d c for 5 rounds

Change to C2 and d c 12 more rounds.

Finish off.

Arms

(make 2)

As for legs Round one and two.

3^rd round: inc twice evenly (14 d c)

4^th and 5^th round d c w/o increasing

6^th round change to C2 and make 11 rounds

Finish off

Crochet or stitch to join inside legs. Stuff legs & body & stitch top opening together

Stitch on arms and head.

*Vary amount of MC in legs and arms to make shorts and to shorten length of shirt sleeves.

Complete whole doll in skin colour. Stitch or crochet clothes.
